ACTIVITIES AT THE LIBRARY 2009

5th January 2009 - LIBRARY USER EDUCATION
On 5th January 2009, about 153 students from Year 7 2009 had come to the library user education. They were briefed by own Head of Library - Assistant Librarian I - Awg Ahmad bin Hj Md Yassin about the rules and regulations of the library as well as services and collections available at the library. They were accompanied by their respective form teacher form teachers and divided into two groups. Year 7A-7D was the first group to arrive while the second group year 7E-7G.
28th January 2009 - ENGLISH TEACHERS VISITED THE LIBRARY
On 28th January 2009 at 1.30-4.30pm, about 30 teachers from all secondary schools around Brunei had visited the library to look further the collection of English books available at the library. They were briefed by English teachers of SM PIHM, Serasa about the library period that is available and how the reading is conducted.
25th April 2009- RFID UAT Briefing
25th April 2009 at 9 am, 3 staff from Alif Company had demonstrated how the Vilis System is to be operated. Under the programme name "spydus", they explained how to check in and check out books. They also explained how to use and manage book drop. Pg Shahminan - Chief Librarian from School's Department and Principal of SM P.I.H.M., Serasa - Miss Lim Siew King and staff of the library also attended the briefing.
MARCH-NOVEMBER 2009 - MOST READER AWARD
Starting march this year, the most reader award had been introduced at the library. This is to choose the student who had borrowed many books, 3 students who achieved the highest number of books borrowed will be chosen as the most reader award. This activitiy is continous from March to November 2009. The award will be given during the Academic Award 2009 on 6th March 2010

SERVICES

LENDING SERVICES

This section has a collection of books either in Malay, English and Ugama which range from academic books to fiction books. Students, Teacher and Non Teaching staff are entitled to apply for a library membership. Students are given 2 cards while teachers and Non-Teaching Staff are given 4 cards. They are allowed to borrow books for 2 weeks. Overdue books are fined 10 cents per day.
REFERENCE SERVICES
This section has a collection of books from English,Malay and Ugama. All these reference books are to be used in the library only. Most of the reference books are Encyclopedias as well as Dictionaries.
NEWSPAPER SERVICES
The library provides five types of newspapers as its supplementary reading materials such as Borneo Bulletin, Media Permata, The Brunei Times, Pelita Brunei and Berita Harian.
ASEAN COLLECTION
Various kinds of products as well as costumes from Asean countries are exhibited at one corner of the library.
BRUNEIANA COLLECTION
This collection has been established in February 2009 with the purpose of reference and information source for teachers about the history and teh items produced by Negara Brunei Darussalam.
PAST YEAR EXAMINATION PAPER
Past year examination papers such as BGCE 'O' Levels and PMB are available at the counter of the library.
PHOTOCOPY MACHINE
Photocopy machines are available at the library. Photocopy cards are also provided. These cards can be purchased at the library counter at the cost of $10.00 per card which entitles the user of about 200 copies.
BINDING & LAMINATING
Library user can use binding & laminating machine but they have to pay according to the size of strip and plastic needed.
CYBER LIBRARY
Cyber library is situated at the entrance corner of the library. Teachers, Non-Teaching Staff and Students are welcome to join the cyber library. Membership is $5.00 only per member. Each user are only to use the computer for 30 minutes only for every session. This is allow other users to use the computer too.
VILIS
This is a new project from Ministry of Education for library system to become systematic, automated and online connection. The project is not yet operational but computers and self-check machine is available and ready to use.

LIBRARY RULES & REGULATION

  • Students must be in school uniform.
  • Refreshments, bags and games are not allowed in the library.
  • Students are only allowed to borrow two books at a time for two weeks period. If students wants to renew the date due please bring the book to the librarian.
  • A fine of 10 cents per day will be imposed on anyone who fails to return the books within the stipulated date. The money will then goes to the library fund.
  • Borrowers are responsible for the well being of the books. The borrowers will have to either replace or pay for the cost of the books borrowed if they are lost or damaged.
  • Before taking out the books, please inspect the book carefully. Any damages, scribbling or missing pages must be reported to the librarians.
  • All library users must be obeyed the library rules respectively.
  • The librarians has the authority to caution any students or users who violets any regulations in the library and advice them to leave if necessary.
  • Library staff will not be responsible for any loss of personal belongings left in the library.

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION
The school library is located on the first floor at Block A. It has three staff members i.e. one Library Assistant Grade I and two Library Assistant Grade II.
As one of the important resource center, the library provides its readers and its users with various kinds of service. Photocopying is accessible to teachers and students on self-service basis.
The library is fully airconditioned, it has sufficient reading areas for teachers and students to study comfortably. The library has a healthy collection of books which consists of various kinds of magazines and periodicals. Daily newspapers can also be found in the library.
There are over 23,000 collection of books ranging from academic books, fiction and non fiction books.

PENGIRAN ISTERI HAJJAH MARIAM, SERASA SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY


INTRODUCTION
The library is located on the first floor at Block A. The library is connected to the classroom block s which will enable students to have very easy and convenient access route to the library.
OBJECTIVES
  • To be an affective and resourceful center.
  • To increase the number of students using the library.
  • To promote interest in reading, simustaneously, to develop a healthy reading culture among the students.
